Sustainable Kiilopää

Sustainable development is a natural part of our daily work

Sustainability is an integral part of our strategy at Kiilopää, as our principle is to offer our customers activities and experiences in nature powered by their own physical effort.

We are committed to preventing and reducing the environmental impact of our operations and actively work to promote sustainable development by continuously improving our practices and setting new goals annually.

Our impact on the environment

We use 100% renewable wind power, environmentally friendly and eco-labeled products, and when making purchases, we acquire resource-efficient technology. We regularly measure and monitor our environmental efficiency, including water, electricity, and energy consumption, as well as the amount of waste generated by our operations.

We are committed to reducing our water and energy consumption, sorting and recycling almost all our waste, increasingly using local and organic products in our cooking, and producing as little waste as possible. We use biodegradable dishes only temporarily in special situations, provide customers with clean and fresh tap water, our guides use only marked trails during summer hikes, and we measure our carbon footprint annually.

We are part of the community

Kiilopää recognizes its role as a local entity and a part of the community. We aim to reflect local values in our operations. Located in the Sámi homeland, the unique background of the surrounding fell nature enhances our activities.

Localness is evident in:

  • the products we sell in our minimarket
  • our restaurant, especially in seasonal products
  • our sauna world
  • our event services

Enhancing inclusivity as part of our culture

We are committed to treating all people equally.

We serve our customers equitably and are dedicated to enhancing inclusivity. While we currently cannot offer fully accessible services, we are working towards making at least some of our services accessible in the future. Key areas for improving the customer and visitor experience include the quality of infrastructure, restaurant services, and strengthening local identity. We are committed to hiring staff for all roles, including leadership positions (especially members of the local community and minorities), without discrimination based on age, race, gender, disability, socioeconomic status, or other factors.

Economic sustainability means continuity

Our operations at Kiilopää are financially viable, long-lasting, and create continuity. Suomen Latu Kiilopää has been providing services since 1964. As a responsible employer, we offer fair wages, employ staff year-round, and provide them with job-related training and support with housing issues.

  • We recognize our significance as an employer, taxpayer, local actor, and as part of Suomen Latu ry
  • Our operations are financially sustainable and continuous
